How to Make a Healthy Smoothie

Updated: Apr 4, 2022

I absolutely love smoothies because they are flavorful, light, and satisfy my hunger. Plus, you can pack in so much nutrition depending on how you make it. I want to walk you through exactly how I prepare mine:

1. ✔️Choose your liquid
You want to make sure you are adding liquid first to prevent your other ingredients from sticking to the bottom of your blender.

2.🍓Add your fruit (about 1 cup)
The fruit will provide vitamins and minerals along with natural sweetness. Most smoothie shops way overdo it on the fruit and don't add enough protein and fat to balance it out, which will cause you to feel hungry shortly after.

3. 🥬Add your greens (1 cup)
(you don’t taste em!) No really, I promise you, you don't or else I would most definitely not be adding them. Adding frozen spinach to your smoothie is spectacular because you are able to sneak in veggies to your smoothie without even knowing.

4. ✔️Add your protein
(powder or Greek yogurt)
Adding a source of protein is very important as protein serves as the macronutrient that keeps us full, prevents muscle loss, and requires the most energy for the body to break down. Protein should be eaten with every single meal.

5.🥜Add your healthy fat
(1-2 tbsp nut butter or 1/2 avocado)
Adding healthy fat is essential for hormone health, and heart health, and helps keep us full due to a hormone that gets released in the small intestine called cholecystokinin.
I recommend adding a full serving with every meal.

This smoothie combination should keep you full for 3-4 hours and if not, tweak it to your needs and readjust!
